CFE has awarded a contract to install advanced metering infrastructure aimed at cutting losses in electric energy distribution in Mexico City and Mexico state. The USD 139 million contract was awarded to three firms Electricas de Medellín - Ingenieria y Servicios, Edemtec and Siemens that will carry out 10 projects to secure 250,522 electricity meters using radio frequency technology. It includes installing 8,454 distribution transformers and 428km of transmission lines, which will become operational in April 2016.

The contract aims to reduce CFE's non-technical losses due to inaccurate metering and technical losses as a result of lack of maintenance.
