Workers at Renault undertook strike action on January 29, 2013 which coincided with the latest round of negotiations between management and unions. Around 1,700 workers staged work stoppages and demonstrations across France, including the Douai factory where more than 500 workers protested inside a factory causing disruptions to production, and outside the Flins factory where workers blocked traffic. The company also stated that the eighth round of negotiations saw it reiterate its commitment to improve the competitiveness of the business to the CFDT, CFE-CGC, CGT and for unions.

However, the unions have also submitted their own proposals to the negotiation process. Points raised and clarified by Renault included that volunteers would be taken for cross-postings in the first instance and that staff would be given at least two months notice of a secondment. It also said that the establishment of new regional organizations in the country would be subject to consultation with unions.

The next round of negotiations will take place on February 5, 2013.
