South Sumatra Governor (Alex Noerdin) gave opening speech of Banjarsari Power Plant 2 x 110 MW which already on commercial stage. In addition, the groundbreaking of 2 x 620 Megawatts Banko Tengah which known as the Sumsel 8 also done by the Governor in Muara Enim on Saturday (2015/11/7).

South Sumatra had abundant energy sources and big potential. South Sumatera coal reserves nearly 50 percent of the national coal reserves. However most of the coals are low calory ones with tiny production and declining. Only 25 million tonnes (2012), 23 million tonnes (2013) and 17 million tonnes (2014). meanwhile other province may produce about 250 million tons per year.

The Banjarsari and Sumsel 8 power plant inauguration will become new milestones for Indonesia electricity system where Sumsel 8 will stream its power into Java-Bali system. When the conditions meet, South Sumatra will be proven as the energy shed.

PTBA role in power generation industry was not only to increase power supply but also helped PLN overall. Currently, PLN is the main player in electricity with its many power plants. However, for the next five years, more than half of electricity business players will be private ones.
