OSRAM Licht AG announced unaudited earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended September 30, 2017. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of EUR 1,029 million compared to EUR 909 million a year ago. EBITDA was EUR 118 million compared to EUR 125 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was EUR 160 million compared to EUR 131 million a year ago. Profit after tax was EUR 40 million compared to EUR 44 million a year ago. Free cash outflow was EUR 28 million compared to free cash inflow of EUR 30 million a year ago.
For the year, the company reported revenue of EUR 4,128 million compared to EUR 3,785 million a year ago. EBITDA was EUR 621 million compared to EUR 621 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was EUR 695 million compared to EUR 652 million a year ago. Profit after tax was EUR 275 million compared to EUR 532 million a year ago. Free cash flow was EUR 99 million compared to EUR 24 million a year ago.
In fiscal year 2018, the company will continue to build on its foundations for the future. Revenue is expected to increase by between 5.5% and 7.5%. The EBITDA adjusted for special items is likely to be around EUR 700 million and will be influenced by factors such as currency effects, ramp up costs for Kulim and increased capital expenditure on research and development which in total sums up to a three digit million Euro amount. The currency effects alone have a negative impact of roughly EUR 70 million. Diluted earnings per share are expected to be between EUR 2.40 and EUR 2.60. The company is expecting a free cash outflow between EUR 50 million and EUR 150 million.
Osram Licht AG is a Germany-based lighting manufacturer, specializing in semiconductor-based products for high-tech applications. The Company has three segments. The Opto Semiconductors segment develops products relating to optoelectronic semiconductor technology, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), optical sensors, infrared LEDs and laser diodes, among others. The Specialty Lighting segment offers lamps and systems for the automotive sector, stage and cinema applications, and industrial and medical applications, such as ultraviolet (UV) disinfection lamps. The Lighting Solutions & Systems segment is divided into two business units: Digital Systems develops LED light engines, electronic ballasts for LED modules and traditional lamps, and light management software with application in intelligent facility automation and the Internet of Things (IoT), and Lighting Solutions produces and sells luminaires as well as designs and implements solutions for internal and external lighting.
