(Alliance News) - Officina Stellare Spa announced Thursday that the Gran Sasso Science Institute has awarded the company the supply of the Terzina optical system for the NUSES - Neutrinos and Seismic Electromagnetic Signals space mission satellite.

The order, which will have a duration of 24 months and a total value of EUR2.0 million, includes the design, engineering and implementation of both the mechanical and optical infrastructure of the next-generation Terzina scientific instrument.

The project, promoted and led by GSSI in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between 67 percent Thales and 33 percent Leonardo, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics and the University of Geneva, aims to develop and validate new technologies for the observation of elementary particles from space by bringing two scientific instruments, Terzina and Zirè, on board the Nuses satellite.

This will be an unprecedented study mission that, thanks to cutting-edge technical solutions, will not only transfer to orbit methodologies of investigation that were previously possible only on Earth, but also pave the way for subsequent programs on a larger scale. Once delivered, the Officina Stellare payload will be integrated by Thales Alenia Space Italy into the NIMBUS satellite platform.

"This is an achievement that makes us particularly satisfied," commented Gino Bucciol, vice president of Business Development and co-founder of Officina Stellare. After the numerous contracts signed in recent weeks related to applications particularly related to Earth Observation in high resolution, with the innovative Terzine instrument for the Nuses mission, Officina Stellare confirms its capabilities and its soul of technological innovation also as a supplier of space payloads for scientific and experimental purposes."

Officina Stellare's stock closed Thursday down 0.4 percent at EUR12.10 per share.
