Sioux Falls - NorthWestern Energy donated a building in Doland that formerly was used by crew members and to house equipment.
The donation was accepted by the city of Doland.
The building has been unused for more than a year. Advancements in technology and equipment allow NorthWestern Energy's more than 400 customers in Doland and those in the surrounding area to be served by company resources from other nearby locations.
Retired NorthWestern Energy District Superintendent Craig Schroeder suggested that the building be donated to the city. The city of Doland and NorthWestern Energy will finalize the transfer of ownership before the end of June.
'The NorthWestern Energy building being donated to the community of Doland is a good way to retire its service.' said Schroeder. 'I enjoyed serving the community of Doland and the surrounding area during my career, and it will be interesting to see what becomes of the building in its second life.'
The building includes an area once used as a showroom decades ago when the energy company sold appliances, along with an office, an enclosed garage and a small equipment yard.
'Advances in technology mean we can serve our customers in new and more efficient ways, but NorthWestern Energy's mission to provide safe, reliable, affordable energy service to our customers continues to be the core of everything we do,' said NorthWestern Energy Community Relations Manager Tom Glanzer. 'We are pleased to make this donation to the community of Doland.'
