Chairman of the National Development Bank (NDB), Kavan Ratnayaka has resigned with effect from April 30 (Thursday).

An NDB announcement dated April 27 to the Colombo Stock Exchange said that the chairman had tendered his resignation for 'personal reasons' and that 'there are no other matters that need to be brought to the attention of the shareholders'.

Mr. Ratnayaka was appointed head of the bank during the UNP-led government of 2015-2019, and analysts said it was a matter of time when he would have been replaced by the current SLPP-led government. The chairman of the NDB is generally a government-appointed nominee.
