Meggitt PLC ( "Meggitt" or "the Group"), a leading international company specialising in high performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence and energy markets, has been awarded £10.2 million in contracts from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to upgrade British Army small arms training systems known as Dismounted Close Combat Trainers (DCCTs).

The upgrade supports next-generation virtual military training systems and Meggitt's expanding range of simulated weapons.

The three contracts upgrade existing trainers with flexible system architecture, enable portability and add new fire control system simulation training to complement next generation live-fire equipment. Deliveries will start in November 2015 for the first contract.

Two contracts include Forward Air Controller (FAC) and Indirect Fire training upgrades.

The simulation elements and enhanced software applications are being designed and produced by Meggitt Training Systems in Suwanee, Georgia, USA.

Meggitt Target Systems in Ashford, UK will provide logistics support.

Meggitt Training Systems' Vice President of Virtual Systems, Larry Raines commented: "Meggitt is committed to a continued, long-term partnership with the UK MoD, one of our most important virtual training systems customers. As combat training requirements evolve and the consolidation of resources and manpower grows in importance, the UK MoD's investment in the system validates our cost-effective and flexible approach."

Meggitt Training Systems' small arms trainer has been the UK MoD's primary small arms training system provider since 2003. Similar systems are in service with US forces, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and various countries throughout Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
