Marathon Petroleum Corporation specializes in oil refining, transportation, and distribution. Sales break down by activity as follows:
- refining and distribution (96.1%): 3.4 million barrels of refined products sold per day in 2021, broken down by product type into gasoline (53.5%), distillates (31.8%), asphalt (2.7%), propane (2.2%), heavy fuel oil (1.1%) and other (8.6%). At the end of 2021, the group had 16 refineries and was operating a network of 7,159 service stations located in the United States;
- oil transportation and storage (3.9%).
