(Alliance News) - Maire Tecnimont Spa announced Thursday that Nextchem, through its subsidiary Stamicarbon, has been awarded proprietary licensing and equipment supply contracts for an "Ultra- Low Energy" urea plant in China by Jiangsu Huachang Chemical Co, a listed chemical company active in fertilizer production. The plant, to be located in Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu Province, will have a capacity of 1,860 tons per day and will use Stamicarbon's Ultra-Low Energy design.

"The proprietary ULE technology," the company points out in a note, "allows heat supplied in the form of high-pressure steam to be used three times instead of twice. This heat recovery scheme results in a 35 percent reduction in steam consumption and 16 percent reduction in cooling water compared to the traditional CO2 stripping process. With two plants currently in operation, the Ultra-Low Energy solution is demonstrating unprecedented energy savings in the market, a result of Stamicarbon's continued commitment to innovation and excellence in urea fertilizer technology."

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Maire, commented, "This project is the ninth worldwide implementation of our innovative ULE technology and positions us as the industry benchmark for high energy efficiency, further demonstrating the group's commitment to providing sustainable technology solutions to support customers in their decarbonization plans."

Maire's stock is in the fractional red at EUR4.82 per share.
