Holiday programme for employees' children in Frankfurt expanded / reconciliation of work and family an important concern for the Group
For 180 children of employees from all business areas of the Lufthansa Group, a small dream will come true: when lots were drawn they all managed to get a coveted place in the company's own "Luftikusse" holiday care programme. As of July 28, they will get the opportunity to take a close look at their mum or dad's employer, into the exciting world of aviation. Following the great success of the holiday programme in 2013, the Group is further expanding its childcare offer during the 2014 summer holidays and now offers varied and professional care throughout the entire six weeks of vacation. Each week 30 children come together to explore Europe's largest aviation company.
"Base camp" of "Luftikusse" is the Supervisory Board Room in the Lufthansa Aviation Center at Frankfurt Airport. On their daytrips the children will learn, for example, at Lufthansa Cargo, how a container is sent on its way and how a valuable horse travels by plane. A visit to the IT specialist Lufthansa Systems will take them into the impressive depths of the server building. The highlight: every Tuesday the children will board LH YY8822 "at altitude zero" on a tour of flight operations and learn what happens behind the scenes before a passenger takes off safely and content in an aircraft of the Lufthansa Group. This calls for perfect teamwork between staff at the check-in, at the departure gates, the flight crews, but also Lufthansa Technik and in the large kitchens of the LSG Sky Chefs catering specialist. The children will discover the Lufthansa Training and Conference Center in Seeheim as a place of learning for grown-ups.
The week-long "Luftikusse" holiday programme will end each week with a circus and dance show, which the Executive Board team of the Lufthansa Group will not miss. The Lufthansa Group supports its employees with tailor-made programmes for the care of their children. The aim is to expand the care infrastructure and networks to make the reconciliation of work and family easier for employees. For example, on 16 July 2014, the company opened a Parent-Child office in the Lufthansa Aviation Center, which allows employees to bring a child to work when needed and this in a child-friendly environment, without themselves being restricted.here.
