MILAN (Reuters) - The Italian team that will develop the Global Combat Air Program, composed of Leonardo as strategic partner and other national companies, has signed the contract to support the Defense Ministry in the new phase of development of the sixth-generation air system.

According to a joint note, the team, also composed of Elettronica, Avio Aero and Mbda Italia, will lead developments through a process of technological transition to the Gcap 'system of systems,' based on sixth-generation air combat platforms capable of operating in multi-domain scenarios.

In addition, the industry will collaborate with universities, research centers, SMEs and start-ups, benefiting the interchange and growth of national expertise, and in close synergy with the Ministry of Defense to direct technological development and, consequently, industrial support, the statement added.
