JTOWER Inc. announced that as disclosed ono April 13, 2022, the company signed the contract with Foxconn Technology Group for the development of a 5G mmWave (28GHz band) shared radio unit, aiming for commercialization in the latter half of Fiscal Year 2022 as a pioneering effort in the industry. Infra-Sharing solutions so far have utilized devices that share the installation site, antennas, and the devices beyond the radio units of each MNO. On the other hand, the shared radio unit being developed with Foxconn was envisioned to incorporate the functions of the radio units previously installed by each MNO and to support the bands of all four MNO.

Company have been developing the 5G mmWave shared radio with Foxconn for about 2 years under the development contract. However, considering the unresolved delays in the development plan and the longer-than-expected time required for the rise in mmWave demand, it was decided at the board meeting held on May 9, 2024, to discontinue the development of the 5G mmWave shared radio unit and to review the development plan. Although the development of the 5G mmWave shared radio unit has been discontinued, as disclosed in the "Business Strategies for Achieving Medium-to Long-Term Financial Targets.

Medium to long-term strategy includes focusing on the high-level Infra-Sharing (vertical development) such as radio units (RU) and fronthaul sharing for 5G including the Sub6 band, Beyond 5G, and 6G, which are expected to see demand sooner than mmWave. The company will continue to pursue the developments that contribute to their medium to long-term growth, considering market trends and the needs of mobile carriers.
