General Mills Inc. announced that layoffs have begun at the plant in New Albany. The company plans to close the food processing plant by mid-year and lay off all its workers there. The business had about 400 workers when the closure was initially announced.

That's now down by about 30% as a result of layoffs, according to Kelsey Roemhildt, communications manager for General Mills. Future job eliminations will be tiered as the plant gets closer to shutting down.
