Energy company investing $1.45 million to improve reliability for customers

BERLIN, Conn. -As part of Eversource's commitment to provide reliable power to its customers, the energy company is investing $1.45 million in electric distribution system upgrades in the Dayville section of Killingly. This enhancement project includes installing more than 70 stronger and thicker utility poles, more than 50 new transformers, approximately two miles of electric lines known as "tree wire" - which can better withstand extreme weather, and four reclosers-high-voltage circuit breakers that detect momentary power interruptions.

"Our job is to ensure customers have the reliable energy they need, especially now during these unprecedented times with many working and learning from home," said Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom. "By continuing to make strategic investments like these in Killingly, we're building a more robust and resilient electric grid that will serve our customers well into the future."

The project is now underway, with work scheduled in the area of Upper Maple Street, Route 101 (Hartford Pike) and Sayles Avenue. Weather permitting, crews are working from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Eversource communicates with community leaders and customers where work is being done to minimize the impact to traffic and coordinate with other roadwork happening in the town. Drivers may experience delays due to alternating one-way traffic. Customers may experience short power interruptions at times during the course of the project so crews can safely perform the work. Any customers affected will be notified by the energy company in advance. The project is expected to be complete by the end of February.
