Equinor has been awarded the operating contracts for the development of two new CO2 storage sites in the North Sea, called Albondigas and Kinno.

These new licenses are key elements in making the Norwegian continental shelf a leading CO2 storage area in Europe.

The new licenses should each have the capacity to store around 5 million tonnes of CO2 per year once operational. This estimate will be refined during the exploration phase.

The award of the Albondigas and Kinno licenses reinforces Equinor's ambitions to develop more storage licenses in the North Sea in the coming years.
