GDF SUEZ officially opened its first wind park in Romania at its Gemenele site on 12 July this year. Commissioned in January, this new park highlights the Group's commitment to increasing the contribution made by renewable energies to its European energy mix.

Already well known in Romania for its gas operations, this is the first time that GDF SUEZ has entered the power generating market here. This new service forms part of a wider Group ambition to consolidate its status as leader in this fast-growing new market.

Commissioned this January, the Gemenele wind park boasts a generating capacity of 48 MW, and will generate 130 GWh of power: enough to meet the annual consumption needs of 50,000 Romanian households. It marks the first step by GDF SUEZ into the Romanian wind power market.

Close cooperation between decision-makers, partners, Group employees and the local community has contributed very significantly to the success of this project. Attended by Jean-François Cirelli, GDF SUEZ Vice-Chairman and President of the Energy Europe business line, the official opening ceremony gave the local community the opportunity to demonstrate its own commitment to the project by sharing its cultural and folk traditions.
