Eiffage, through Smulders (a Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Métal), has announced that it has won an EPCIC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning) contract for four AC power substations on Princess Elisabeth Island, a future artificial energy island off the Belgian coast.

Awarded by Elia Transmission Belgium (Belgian electricity transmission system operator), the contract was awarded to the consortium comprising Eiffage, HSM Offshore Energy and Iv-Offshore & Energy.

Two of the substations will have a capacity of 1,050 MW, while the other two will have a capacity of 700 MW. A service module and a garage are also included in the contract.

Construction of the substations is scheduled to start in May 2025, with completion in Q1 2029.

Smulders will carry out part of the infrastructure manufacturing at its
Belgian plants and final assembly at its new Vlissingen site in the Netherlands.

Installation on the island will take place from 2027, with commissioning scheduled for 2030.
