(Alliance News) - Edison Rsp Spa announced Tuesday that it will build 7 new 45 MW photovoltaic plants in Piedmont. The plants are located in the provinces of Turin and Alessandria, and are in addition to Edison's two existing plants in the area.

Overall, the nine plants have a producibility of 70 GWh per year, equal to the energy needs of 26 thousand households and useful to avoid the emission of more than 30 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Marco Stangalino - executive vice president "Power Asset" of Edison - commented, "We are increasing our installed capacity from photovoltaics in a region that is particularly strategic for us, where we are also present with our 46 hydroelectric power plants with which we contribute to the sustainable growth of the territory and the creation of value for its community."

"With the construction of the new solar plants in the provinces of Turin and Alessandria, we are moving one step closer to grounding new renewable energy in order to reach 40 percent green production in our production mix by 2030," Stangalino concluded.

Edison -- which quotes only savings shares -- is in the red by 0.3 percent at EUR1.50 per share on Tuesday.
