BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Following problems with the transmission of the European Championship round of 16 match between Turkey and Austria, MagentaTV customers will be compensated. All those "who booked MagentaTV on the day of the exclusive Turkey vs. Austria match will have the fees for the first month of their MagentaTV subscription waived on request," according to a Deutsche Telekom statement. An online process will be launched next Monday for this purpose, the company announced in a statement.

According to a report in the "Bild" newspaper, no compensation was initially planned before things turned out differently. The reason for the technical disruptions during the broadcast of the match on Tuesday, which Turkey won 2:1 in Leipzig, was that too many people booked the MagentaTV subscription at short notice.

The servers were overloaded by the rush and not all new customers were able to watch the start of the match. Among other things, they missed the quick Turkish lead through Merih Demiral after 57 seconds. Due to the problems, Deutsche Telekom had already set up a free live stream on YouTube. The game could not be seen on free TV./two/DP/mis
