Borje Ekholm's meeting on Feb. 13 comes amid calls from some German lawmakers to ban China's Huawei [HWT.UL], the global leader in telecoms networks, on national security grounds.
Sources earlier said Finland's Nokia would also send a representative to meet Merkel, although the company has not commented on the report.
Nokia is the world's No.2 supplier of telecoms equipment, followed by Ericsson.
