Attractive TV offering for 171,000 apartments
TV and Internet services from a single source for tenants
Investments running into low three-digit millions
The property group Deutsche Annington Immobilien Gruppe (DAIG, Bochum) and Deutsche Telekom (Bonn) have concluded a strategic partnership. The objective of this cooperation is to provide TV services to 171,000 apartments owned by the Bochum-based corporation right across Germany.
The apartments will gradually be connected to the new fiber optics network of Deutsche Telekom. The roll-out will be launched at the beginning of 2012. In the first quarter of 2013, DAIG buildings with a total of more than 40,000 apartments will already have been connected to Deutsche Telekom's TV network. Deutsche Telekom will thus gradually supply the apartments at 610 Deutsche Annington locations right across Germany with an extensive range of free-to-air and pay-TV packages. The partnership will provide tenants with a top TV offering and in the future will gradually give them access to the rapid broadband network of the Bonn-based telecommunications company. Telekom is investing an amount running into the low three-digit millions.
DAIG is a pioneer in the German property business when it comes to equipping their apartments with fiber optic technology. "We aim to offer our customers additional convenience and service," said Managing Director Wijnand Donkers. "The strategic cooperation with such a strong and competent partner as Deutsche Telekom is a significant step in achieving this." DAIG pursues a long-term property management approach and intends to continue upgrading its apartments. In this process, telecommunications services are especially important. The technology used by Deutsche Telekom offers tenants considerable benefits. They include a top-class TV offering and in the future, higher transmission speeds in downloading and uploading over fiber optic cables. For nearly 90 percentof customers, the TV costs will be lower than before.
"Today we took the crucial first step in establishing ourselves in the residential segment as a reliable partner, active right across Germany, with a broad and innovative product portfolio," says Christian P. Illek, Marketing Director at Telekom Deutschland, as the contract was signed. This was particularly true in view of the fact that the established cable carriers benefit from a number of historical privileges. He also made clear that Deutsche Telekom would continue steadfastly down its chosen path. The contract was another example of the corporate strategy of investing in innovative optical fiber technology in areas where there is a demand.
