Citigroup Chief Executive Officer Vikram Pandit today announced a $1 million commitment from Citi in support of the ?100,000 Strong? China Study Abroad Initiative announced by the Obama Administration today. The ?100,000 Strong Initiative? is a national effort to strengthen and diversify the number of American students studying in China by 100,000.

?Citi is proud to be an initial sponsor of this important initiative to strengthen understanding between the United States and China. Citi's $1 million pledge will help open opportunities for students to study in China and learn more about financial services in the region,? said Pandit. ?Citigroup has operated in China for over 100 years – since 1902 – and we believe this initiative will offer American students a tremendous opportunity to learn more about financial education in a key growth market,? said Pandit.

Citi has a long-standing history of supporting financial education initiatives in China, including funding a three-year rural finance research program by the China Center for Economic Research (2008), launching the first-ever financial education book written for teenagers in Shanghai (2008), and granting $1.24 million in support of Financial IT education (2007).
