CGI on Wednesday reported higher profit and revenue in its fourth fiscal quarter.

For the three months ended Sept. 30, the Canadian information technology and software company posted higher net income of 414.5 million Canadian dollars ($301.1 million), or C$1.76 a share, compared with C$362.4 million, or C$1.51 a share, a year ago.

Adjusted earnings were C$1.79 a share, better than the C$1.76 a share that analysts were expecting, according to FactSet.

Revenue in the period rose to C$3.51 billion from C$3.25 billion, nearly in line with analysts' forecast of C$3.53 billion.

Chief Executive George Schindler said that clients have been prioritizing cost-savings and modernization initiatives, which has helped drive the company's managed services bookings in the quarter.

The company ended the quarter with bookings of C$4 billion, up from C$3.64 billion and a backlog of C$26.06 billion, compared with C$24.06 billion.
