CEZ Group will close its Bulgarian coal-fired plant at Varna as a result of the high operations cost as well as strict emissions controls. Situated by the Black Sea, the 1,260-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant was the subject of plans for modernisation but efforts to establish a joint firm with Bulgaria's state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) to upgrade the facility have failed. According to CEZ has, it will start shuttering the plant from January 1 next year until March or April.
