We are committed to protecting shared water resources where water risk is high, as part of our Together Towards Zero programme. This World Water Week, we're pleased to share our WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) partnership with Desolenator and EcoSoftt, to provide clean water, toilets and handwashing facilities across three schools in Mysore and Alwar, India.
These facilities are a crucial element of the learning environment in schools and vital in combating the spreading of bacteria and viruses.
'Desolenator has been delighted to facilitate these school WASH initiatives as part of our ongoing partnership with the Carlsberg Group. Supported by our deployment partner EcoSoftt, these projects showcase the importance of collaboration and new ways of working to achieve impact together' says Louise Bleach, Development and Impact Lead at Desolenator.
As part of the project, the Carlsberg India leadership team came together with the teachers of the schools for a Volunteers-Day. Together, they helped with paintwork and other activities to improve the learning environment. In addition to these upgrades, we will also be funding the maintenance and needed repairs at the schools for the next five years.
A basic right for students
'WASH initiatives are critical to the achievement of the UN SDGs, as well as the first line of defence in the fight against COVID-19. Access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation in schools for girls and boys is a basic right for students and staff. The upgraded facilities will directly benefit and positively impact the wellness, immunity and overall development of the students and Carlsberg India is proud to be part of the project, contributing to protecting shared water resources as part of our Together Towards Zero commitments,' says Muthuraman Ramanathan, Vice President - Operations, Carlsberg India.
The schools that are part of our WASH projects in India are The Primary School in Uppaligara Hundi Village and The Higher Primary School in Hulimavu Village, which are both located close to our Mysore Brewery, as well as one additional school in Alwar.
This partnership builds on our work with Desolenator to provide clean drinking water to a town in Sundarbans, West Bengal, by installing the world's first solar thermal sustainable water purification technology. Alongside our projects in India, we are working on water community projects in Vietnam and Nepal, with more planned for the future.
