WASHINGTON, Jan 11 (Reuters) - The chair of the Senate Commerce Committee on Thursday asked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to initiate a new audit of Boeing’s production systems after a cabin panel blowout on a Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 last week.

Senator Maria Cantwell said recent accidents and incidents "call into question Boeing’s quality control. In short, it appears that FAA’s oversight processes have not been effective in ensuring that Boeing produces airplanes that are in condition for safe operation."
