BMW will be the first to completely convert its main plant in Munich to the production of electric cars by the end of 2027.

"We are investing 650 million euros here and will therefore be producing exclusively all-electric vehicles at our main plant from the end of 2027," explained Head of Production Milan Nedeljkovic on Wednesday. This will mark the end of the era of vehicles with combustion engines 75 years after the introduction of the BMW 501. The investment sum will flow into four buildings, including a new vehicle assembly facility with logistics areas and a body shop.

The plant will be converted during ongoing operations, with almost 1000 cars coming off the production line every day. The BMW 3 Series combustion model is currently produced on the same production line as the i4 electric car. The first model of the future all-electric "New Class" platform will be produced in Munich from 2026.
