Banco Santander said that certain customer data has been accessed without authorization.

The Spanish bank said Tuesday said information relating to customers of Santander Chile, Spain and Uruguay, as well as of some Santander current and former employees had been accessed.

However, the company added that no transactional data nor any credentials that would allow transactions are contained in the database.

"We immediately implemented measures to contain the incident, including blocking the compromised access to the database and establishing additional fraud prevention controls to protect affected customers," Santander said.

Operations and systems aren't affected, and customers can continue to transact securely.

The database is hosted by a third-party provider, it added.
