American Well Corporation has named Dr. Carrie Nelson as its new Chief Medical Officer. In this role, Dr. Nelson will focus on empowering provider and payer organizations as they seek to achieve greater clinical, operational, and financial outcomes through digital care delivery powered by Converge™, Amwell's enterprise-grade infrastructure software platform. Dr. Nelson will also be responsible for leading clients in their improvement of population health in today's new era of hybrid healthcare and will have clinical oversight of healthcare professionals practicing on behalf of Amwell clinical partner, the Amwell Medical Group.

Dr. Nelson joins Amwell from Advocate Aurora Health where she most recently served as Senior Vice President and CMO for Population Health and Health Outcomes. She also served as the Chief Clinical Officer for Advocate Physician Partners, a benchmark organization known internationally for delivering value-based care in collaboration with about 5000 employed and independent physician practices. With more than 28 years' experience as a Family Medicine provider, Dr. Nelson is an innovative physician leader with a proven track record in the fields of quality improvement, patient safety and population health.

Having served on the board and as president of the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, she has been a leader at the national level, has chaired the American Academy of Family Physicians Commission on Science and Health of the Public, and has regularly engaged in influencing healthcare policy.
