The New York Stock Exchange is set to open in negative territory on Wednesday, as investors turn away from risky assets in anticipation of Nvidia's results, to be released after the close.

Half an hour before the opening, futures contracts on the main New York indices are down between 0.2% and 0.5%, heralding a cautious start to the session.

Market participants will be paying close attention later this evening to the results of Nvidia, the latest big name in technology to publish its quarterly figures.

The performances unveiled so far by the 'Magnificent Seven' (Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft and Tesla) have generally reassured the market and greatly contributed to Wall Street's good form in recent weeks.

Analysts expect the semiconductor designer to significantly exceed market expectations, as it has done in seven of its last eight releases.

"Everyone is preparing their popcorn", stresses one trader. We're especially curious to know what the group's forecasts will be," he adds.

"But given that the peak of investment in AI is far from being reached, we're expecting a particularly optimistic speech," predicts the professional.

Investors should also exercise caution ahead of the afternoon publication of the minutes of the Federal Reserve's latest monetary policy committee meeting.

They know that the minutes could provide clues as to the timing of future rate cuts in the USA, where the strength of the economy has continued to surprise recently.

There are no major indicators on today's agenda.
