(Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden's re-election campaign said on Monday it raised over $51 million in April, down from an over $90 million haul in March, and less than the sum brought in by rival Donald Trump's campaign.
The campaign for Republican former President Trump, who will face Democrat Biden in what looks set to be a closely fought and bitter November election, previously said it raised more than $76 million in April.
The Biden campaign said its total war chest of $192 million was a record for any Democratic candidate at this point in the election cycle, less than six months before polling day.
"April's haul reflects strong, consistent grassroots enthusiasm for reelecting Joe and Kamala (Vice President Kamala Harris), and is giving us the resources necessary to invest in opening offices, hiring organizers and communicating across our battleground states," said campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
March was boosted by Biden's State of the Union address and a fundraising blitz through eight battleground states, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Biden's reelection campaign has routinely surpassed Trump's in fundraising so far.
Biden's March haul of over $90 million compares with the $65.6 million raised in March by Trump and the Republican National Committee.
