Yuanta Donates Books & Invites Author to Stimulate Students' Imagination & Broaden Horizons.

'I know the answer! Teacher, choose me!' The schoolchildren raised their hands vigorously to answer the questions. This is the site of the 'Charity Book Donation, Happy Reading' event, jointly organized by Yuanta Financial Holding Company (FHC), Yuanta Cultural and Educational Foundation, and Ming Dao Elementary School. In addition to presenting the book Flower Heart Chinese Character Game Book to the schoolchildren, Yuanta also invited the author, Mei-jen Yu, to share with the schoolchildren how to use the book and train their expression and literacy skills through games.

Yuanta FHC and the Yuanta Foundation has long been concerned with the issue of education in remote or disadvantaged areas, and is committed to spreading educational resources to all corners of Taiwan, so that schoolchildren with poor resources can also have learning opportunities. This time, Yuanta has selected the Flower Heart Chinese Character Game Book written by famous media personality, Mei-jen Yu, to give to Ming Dao Elementary School. Although the school is located in the Wen-shan District of Taipei City, most of the schoolchildren are from economically disadvantaged families and whose parents are new immigrants from Southeast Asia. Yuanta hopes to enrich the lives of the schoolchildren through the power of reading. Hsiu-lan Kuang, the principal of Ming Dao Elementary School, said that Yu's insightful approach led the students into the world of words and gave them a special sense of words. This class was certainly one of the most impressive in the lives of the schoolchildren. Student Jao, who participated in the event, said happily, 'I like Ms. Yu's class very much. It is different from the one taught in school. It not only stimulates my imagination, but also introduces me to many Chinese characters!'

A total of 42 fifth graders participated in the 'Charity Book Donation, Happy Reading' event. For their performance, Yu gave high praise, 'Every pair of your eyes has given me great encouragement, and I would like to share with you more about the origin and evolution of Chinese characters.' She asked the schoolchildren to come up with five Chinese characters using the radical 'yuan' of Yuanta. The schoolchildren were very enthusiastic in answering the questions, and at the end of the event, they were still reluctant to say goodbye, but asked for Yu's autograph. The scene was similar to a mini book signing party. The volunteers at Yuanta felt the joy of the schoolchildren's participation and did their best to help them find the answers and complete each game level together.

Since 2016, the Yuanta Foundation has been organizing the 'Yuanta Love Book Fun' book drive. Over the past five years, more than 6,000 used books have been donated to various charity organizations to improve the access to knowledge and reading for schoolchildren in remote areas or those who cannot afford to buy books. In this charity book donation event, middle and high grade students above the fourth grade of elementary school were selected as the recipient group. A total of nine schools and educational institutions received the donation. The second-hand book resources fervently provided by Yuanta colleagues are used to create a positive energy cycle for education in remote or disadvantaged areas, to improve the learning effectiveness of students, and to broaden their horizons.
