Burson-Marsteller, a leading global public relations and communications firm, today announced the appointment of Maury Lane as President of Burson Campaigns, a new corporate issues management unit of Burson-Marsteller. Burson Campaigns will help corporations manage issues critical to corporate reputation, business operations and business development. Lane has more than 20 years of communications and public affairs experience and expertise in business development, public relations, strategic messaging, government affairs and worldwide media relations. The new division will be based in Memphis, Tennessee.

Most recently, Lane served as Director of Issues, Crisis and Public Affairs Communications for the FedEx Corporation. In that role, he led and counseled strategic crisis, issues and public affairs communications planning and execution of those international programs for FedEx Corporation and its operating companies globally. Lane's responsibilities included planning, developing and managing media outreach campaigns and coordinating internal and external messaging related to the company's government, regulatory affairs, and issues and crisis communications operations. Before serving as Director of Issues, Crisis and Public Affairs Communications, Lane was a corporate communications strategist for FedEx Express.

Prior to his tenure at FedEx, Lane was president and principal at Hill Country Communications, a full-service agency serving companies in telecommunications, public affairs, manufacturing, high-tech and media fields. At Hill Country Communications, he led business development and operations of practice. Lane also managed client relations and directed campaign strategy and implementation. Lane also was the key strategist and lobbyist for Westinghouse Corp. in its acquisition of CBS and Infinity Broadcasting, which included coordinating activities of 40 firms lobbying municipal, county and state governments in matters of corporate tax, regulatory, labor, pension and trade affairs around the globe.

Lane began his career in Washington, DC working as a legislative assistant for former U.S. Representative Beverly Byron and former U.S. Senator Donald Riegle. He also served as Communications Director for U.S. Senator Ernest F. Hollings and the Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Caucus for the Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee. Lane holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Mississippi.
