Waterman has been appointed for a wide range of engineering and environmental design services on the Victoria Gate development in Leeds city centre.

The 400,000 sq ft first phase of the £600m scheme will consist of a five-floor John Lewis store and two-street arcade for up to 30 stores and restaurants, plus a multi-storey, 800-space car park.

Waterman has been appointed for Building Services, Structural, Geotechnical, Highways, Transport, Civil Engineering, Environmental, Fire, Acoustics and Public Health consultants for the development, working with Sir Robert McAlpine, John Lewis Partnership and Hammerson.

Sir Robert McAlpine won the main construction contract and initial enabling works on the site have begun with main construction scheduled to start later this Spring.

With all phases completed, the Victoria Gate scheme will accommodate just less than 1.2m sq ft of retail and leisure space.
