Surgutskaya GRES-2 branch of E.ON Russia JSC hit the electricity generation record set in 2011 - 38,828 billion kWh which was considered an absolute record from the time of power plant commissioning. As of January 01, 2013 electric power output of Surgutskaya GRES-2 made 39,967 billion kWh. This is by 2,9% more than the result of the similar period of the previous year. The total output of Surgutskaya GRES-2 from the date of power plant startup made 820 billion kWh.

Increase in electric power production at Surgutskaya GRES-2 was due to the two new power units which were put into operation in July 2011. The two new combined cycle units have an aggregate capacity of 800 MW. Thus, the installed capacity of Surgutskaya GRES-2 was enhanced from 4800 MW to 5597 MW.

The single shaft CCGT concept (with the gas and steam turbine on the same shaft) implemented in the new power units at Surgutskaya GRES-2 is an advanced technology for the Russian power engineering. This approach made it possible to apply a compact design in construction of the generating units.

The efficiency ratio of each of the two CCGT-400 power units at Surgutskaya GRES-2 is 56 %, which is by more than one third higher than the average efficiency of the power units currently in operation in Russia.
