Transurban has received a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) citation for 2015 - the only company in our sector to be recognised as an employer of choice for gender equality.
Transurban CEO Scott Charlton said promoting gender equality and ensuring all employees are recognised for their merits makes business and common sense, and should be part of day-to-day business practices and decision making.
'We have done a lot of work to promote gender equality and embed diversity principles across our business. These are now part of our regular business practices and are yielding tangible results,' Mr Charlton said.
'Currently across our workforce we have a gender mix of 47 per cent female, 53 per cent male and our Executive Committee comprises 44 per cent female and 56 per cent male,' he said.
'We have targeted policies in place to support male and female employees with their family caring responsibilities. We also apply an 'equal pay for equal work' approach to remuneration and our FY15 review showed no significant differences between male and female pay.'
Transurban implements programs that embed diversity principles in recruitment processes, ensure pay equity, promote flexible working arrangements, raise awareness about gender bias, and support female managers and executives.
It also has initiatives such as the FEET (Females Encouraged in Engineering and Technology) Mentoring Program, which brings forward talent in underrepresented areas and a Women in Leadership Program, which nurtures emerging female talent at all levels in the organisation to be future leaders.
'In a recent engagement survey, 91 per cent of our staff said they believed Transurban is committed to providing equal opportunities for all employees. This acknowledgement is important because it shows our efforts are having an impact but we recognise this is an area that requires continuous focus.'
WGEA strengthened the criteria this year to reflect best practice and have commented that Transurban is part of a group of employers at the frontline of driving positive change, setting the gold standard for inclusive workplaces.
