The Apple Car, declared dead by many, appears to be coming after all. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says the company's decade-old vehicle project is due to launch sometime in 2028. It would no longer be a fully self-driving car, to an EV more similar to Tesla's.

The car's autonomous functions will reportedly be downgraded from a Level 5 system (full automation) to a Level 4 system (full automation in some circumstances) - and now to a Level 2 + one (partial automation), similar to Tesla's AutoPilot.

So what Apple once envisioned as a car without a steering wheel or pedals is not going to happen.

Apple has reportedly met with potential manufacturing partners in Europe to discuss the updated strategy.

Apple's Project Titan had many false starts, and now appears to be under the management of Kevin Lynch, who replaced Doug Field in 2021. This one came from Tesla.

The company has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the project.
