Secure, limitless service to meet customer data demands demonstrated at Mobile World Congress 2012

OSLO, Norway (January 17, 2012) - Birdstep Technology ASA , (Swedish Pavilion, Hall 2, stand 2F13), a leading provider of secure and seamless wireless connectivity, today announced that it is leading mobile operators through the second generation mobile data boom - a tsunami of data needs created by laptops, smart phones, personal hotspots and tablets.

The mobile operators' market is in a transition period where traditional voice, SMS and occasional data services are turning into a heavily data-driven era. With the uptake in mobile data devices forecasted to double by 2015, mobile operators must address the data boom or their costs will overrun revenue.

IDC reports 472 million mobile device units delivered in 2011 alone, a 55 percent increase from last year, and it is expected to nearly double to 982 million by 2015. Additionally 40 percent growth (CAGR) in data traffic for laptop based mobile broadband is forecasted.

"Operators have to face the facts that it's now the customer who dictates the service, and this is leading to a second generation data boom with their use of laptops, smart phones, personal hotspots and tablets," said Michael O. Jönsson, VP Global Sales at Birdstep. "At Birdstep, we're ushering in the new mobile world order where operators can provide secure, limitless service to meet these demands and not just survive the new data boom, but thrive."

At Mobile World Congress 2012 (Swedish Pavilion, Hall 2, stand 2F13), Birdstep will demonstrate its Easy Cloud Suite and Easy Client Suite solutions that help mobile operators adapt to this new mobile world order. These include:

INTELLIGENT MOBILE DATA OFFLOAD

With the challenges arising from booming data usage across mobile broadband devices, EasyConnect, a simple and powerful network profiling and automated connectivity solution, ensures that end users are connected to the best network, all the time. Intelligent mobile data offload relieves data loads and ensures an improved customer experience and cost control for operators.
