Mr Rao retired during Sept 2020 as the Managing Director of Kennametal India Limited , a listed company where in he also held the position as Chairman of WIDIA India Tooling Pvt Ltd . During his 8 years tenure as MD, he led the company through its great expansion. Previously he held the position as President Sandvik Mining & Construction Rock Tools at Sandvik Asia Ltd taking the business unit through global Manufacturing footprint expansion & domestic business.

Mr. Rao has done his Mechanical Engineering from Mysore University. During four decades of work experience , has worked with several large organizations like ANAND group, ABB , WIDIA , IFB Industries & Sandvik Asia Ltd in the Engineering, Automotive, Mining & Construction industry related industry on Capital equipment and Cutting tools manufacturing domains in various positions of Business & Functional leadership before getting into CEO & Board level positions.
