Shopify Inc. said Thursday that it has appointed Kaz Nejatian as chief operating officer and Jeff Hoffmeister to the role of chief financial officer.

Effective immediately, Mr. Nejatian, who currently serves in the role of vice president of product at the company, replaces current Operating Chief Toby Shannan, the Canadian e-commerce company said.

Mr. Shannon is retiring from his position at Shopify.

In addition, Jeff Hoffmeister is set to succeed Amy Shapero in the role of financial chief. Ms. Shapero is expected to step down from her role following the company's third-quarter earnings announcement on Oct. 27.

Mr. Hoffmeister will join the company from Morgan Stanley, where he currently holds the title of managing director of its technology investment banking group.
