Sanyo Chemical Receives ISCC PLUS Certification for PEG

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. pleased to announce that it has received ISCC PLUS certification*1, one of the international certification systems for sustainable products, for its polyethylene glycol (PEG) in which biomass-derived raw materials are allocated according to the mass balance method*2 based on the certification system.

PEG is a polymer obtained by adding ethylene oxide to ethylene glycol and water and used in a wide range of industrial applications such as cosmetics, toiletries, resins, and pharmaceuticals.

In 2009, Sanyo Chemical established a CSR guideline and made a commitment to tackling the biodiversity issue, and in 2013, we established the Action Policy Concerning Biodiversity* that set the policies of making efforts in the research and development, procurement activity, and production activity by considering the biodiversity, and we have been conducting activities in accordance with the policies. In addition to the ISCC PLUS certification this time, we also acquired the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification (mass balance method) in January 2023. While taking such actions, we are promoting the procurement of sustainable raw materials and the establishment of supply system of the products using them. We will continue to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality by implementing the measures set forth in our management policy "WakuWaku*3 Explosion 2030," which is a vision toward 2030, including the utilization of biomass resources.

*1: ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) PLUS Certification:

An applicable sustainability international certification that realizes and guarantees a sustainable supply chain for products sold worldwide that are made mainly from biomass materials, recycled materials, etc.

*2: Mass balance method

A method in which certified raw materials such as biomass, non-biological renewables and recycled carbon materials are mixed with non-certified raw materials such as petroleum- derived raw materials in the processing and distribution process from raw materials to products, in which certified raw materials are allocated to a portion of the products in proportion to the percentage used.

*3: "WakuWaku" is the Japanese word which express positive, bright, uplifting feeling inspired by inner motivations and/or own wills.
