Samsung Electronics Co. has named Han Jong-hee as its new chief executive officer and vice-chairman in charge of its merged division that covers both smartphones and consumer electronics.

The South Korean tech giant said Mr. Han will also continue to lead Samsung's visual-display division.

Mr. Han "is expected to strengthen the synergies among the different businesses" and "drive new businesses and technologies," Samsung Electronics said in a statement on Tuesday.

The company also named Kyung Kye-hyun, who heads affiliate Samsung Electro-Mechanics, as the new chief executive in charge of Samsung Electronics' semiconductor division.

Mr. Kyung, a semiconductor-design expert, "is expected to help maintain the Company's semiconductor leadership," it said.
