Energy storage company SaltX Technology is pleased to announce the successful installation and commissioning of a charging reactor from the Australian company Calix Limited (ASX:CXL) at SaltX's pilot plant in Bollmora, Stockholm. Tests from the pilot plant charging reactor show good results.

SaltX has developed a technology that enables efficient peak shifting, to take advantage of the excess renewable energy available during the days or even seasons and shift its availability to the high demand evening and winter periods. SaltX's patented energy storage solution utilizes the charging reactor from Calix when charging the energy storage material.

SaltX has designed, built and installed a pilot plant in Bollmora during the past year. The pilot project's goal is to optimize and develop the technology compared to the previous installation in Berlin. Through the collaboration with Calix, SaltX has succeeded in establishing the technology for charging the energy storage. The heat transfer capacity is three times as high compared with previous installations.

"We are pleased to have been able to charge the energy storage in a controlled manner and with relatively high power. Calix's technology has made it possible to safely optimize the system further and bring SaltX closer to a commercial product", said Carl-Johan Linér, CEO of SaltX.

SaltX ordered the technology from Calix in February 2021. A year later, the company can present a successful installation and function.

"I am very proud of our team that delivered this project in record time. In addition, we look with confidence at the collaboration between SaltX and Calix in the establishment of long-term energy storage, which is a crucial part of the energy transition", said Phil Hodgson, CEO of Calix.

The charging reactor has an output of 200 kilowatts and a heat transfer of around 100 watts per square meter kelvin. The initial experiments in Bollmora are in line with the expectations and have confirmed the heat transfer rate and shown a charge level of 95 percent.
