Revolutionising the Energy Digital Landscape with XpedITe
Sep 27, 2023

We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Energy Awards 2023 and as the event is drawing near, we thought we would tell you more about what we do.

On Wednesday 4thOctober, we will be attending the Energy Awards dinner for the first time, and we have to say we are thrilled to be among the pre-eminent names in energy innovation.

Our digital partner, EnerSys®, one of the global leaders in stored energy solutions will be partnering with us at the event. In a world where the environmental impact of data centres has become a global concern, it is organisations such as RiT Tech and EnerSys® that have risen to meet the challenge.

Earning recognition as a finalist for the prestigious "Digital Innovation of the Year" award is a real nod to recognising the need to automate data intelligence and to provide coherent and useful data in one federated system - which we now call Universal Intelligent Infrastructure Management (UIIM).

Data Centres: A Growing Energy Challenge

The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently reported that global data centre energy consumption reached a staggering 230-340 TWh in 2022, equivalent to around 1-1.3% of global electricity demand, excluding cryptocurrency mining. A separate study by Swedish telecom giants Ericsson® and Telia® estimated the carbon footprint of data centres at 127 MtCO2e in 2020, corresponding to about 212 TWh. These statistics are a stark reminder of the urgent need for innovation in the industry.

In 2020, the trade association TechUK revealed that UK co-location data centres, representing only a portion of the nation's data centre energy consumption, consumed 0.8% of the total UK electricity supply. This figure does not even account for privately owned and operated enterprise data centres

RiT Tech's XpedITe: A Shining Light on Innovation

XpedITe is a data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) tool.

Amid this growing energy challenge, RiT Tech has emerged as a beacon of innovation with its ground-breaking solution - XpedITe. The methodology of UIIM, our innovative platform enables big data to transform data centre infrastructure management - providing the intelligence to reduce energy consumption, enhance operational efficiency, and function as an accurate planning or reporting tool for a more sustainable digital future.

Through this method, we can address the need to integrate diverse aspects of data centre operation and management, dissolving traditional silos and harmonising facility management, IT equipment, networking, connectivity, and applications teams - all of which have a positive impact on preserving energy.

What is Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM)?

DCIM systems offer the ability to manage complex data centre deployments at scale across every element of the data centre stack: the basic space, power and cooling elements, network connectivity and cabling systems, and physical IT devices.

Data centre environments are growing in complexity by the day. With proliferating volumes of data from multiple sources, it is increasingly difficult for operators to be confident in the accuracy and reliability of stored information.

High-quality DCIM tools make it possible to overcome these challenges. Through big data analytics and machine learning, DCIM aggregates real-time data from live systems across the data centre ecosystem, enabling operators to make dependable, data-driven decisions and control the data centre environment from a single interface.

Real-World Impact

RiT Tech's XpedITe has already made a substantial impact. Successful customised solutions undertaken in collaboration with leading global financial institutions, telcos, enterprise data centres, and colocation providers have demonstrated the ability to make significant energy savings and operational improvements. By leveraging and adapting XpedITe's capabilities, companies have been able to unlock the data to create strategies that achieve the required levels of energy efficiency.

Setting a New Standard

What sets XpedITe apart from traditional Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) solutions is its forward-looking approach. It can undertake multiple integrations with other legacy platforms including power across an entire data centre estate. By understanding energy usage, XpedITe can help to improve the sustainability of data centres on a global scale.

RiT Tech's commitment to sustainable and efficient data centre management is transforming the industry's response to the energy challenge. In a world where every watt of energy counts, RiT Tech's XpedITe stands as a testament to innovation and dedication. As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, RiT Tech's contribution to energy efficiency makes us a formidable contender for the "Digital Innovation of the Year" Energy Award.
