When it comes to how industrial software suppliers help manufacturers bring new products to life, PTC PLM stands apart according to independent research firm ABI Research (ABI). Based on its assessment in innovation and implementations, ABI Research named PTC the Overall Leader in its Industrial Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Software report.

This latest ranking adds to the other leadership positions PTC has secured in recent years, including the Frost & Sullivan 2019 Product Leadership report, Quadrant Knowledge Solutions Worldwide PLM Market Outlook 2019-2024 report, and 2017 Forrester Wave.

ABI's innovation criteria included data collection, accessibility, UX, and the enablement of compliance and traceability, while implementation criteria included industry expertise, geographic spread, scalability, and IT integration.

ABI zeroed in on how a vendor's solution can contribute to a manufacturer's efforts to create a digital thread and understand the impact that changes have on expenses, the supply chain, and/or the Bill of Materials (BOM).

According to ABI, PTC leads the rankings for innovation with Windchill, which helps manufacturers and industrial firms:

  • Create and manage their digital threads
  • Connect engineering, manufacturing, operations teams, quality, sales and marketing, service, and finance teams
  • Keep all departments up to date on developments
  • With simulation and analytical capabilities
  • Embrace new technologies, such as Augmented Reality (AR)

Also contributing to PTC's top innovation score were Windchill's support for:

  • BOM management, manufacturing process management, multi-CAD data management, Product Data Management (PDM), document management, project and design collaboration, governance, test management, change and configuration management, systems and software engineering, variability management, quality management, and service process management
  • Both on-premise and cloud deployments
  • All the different facets of management for product creation and design for manufacturing
  • Performing generative design and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Both expert and non-expert users through out-of-the-box applications
  • Traceability and compliance thanks to its linking of requirements to part structures and downstream data associativity
