PostNL issues Red Cross stamp on the theme first aid

30 January 2012 at 17:00 CET- The Hague - PostNL today issued Red Cross stamps on the theme of first aid. By purchasing these stamps people will help the Red Cross increase awareness of first aid in the Netherlands. The stamp sheetlet contains a special QR code that smart phone users can scan to download the Netherlands Red Cross' first aid app for free. The app ensures that you always have the information you need to help a casualty.

On the occasion of the presentation of the stamp to Princess Margriet and the theme of first aid, twelve mail deliverers from The Hague area took a first aid course together today. The course is an initiative of the Netherlands Red Cross. This is much needed according to Netherlands Red Cross director Cees Breederveld: "Only 3.2% of people in the Netherlands have up-to-date knowledge of first aid, too low a figure compared with other countries." Training mail deliverers will increase the chances of a first aider being on hand to help in the event of an emergency. This is vital as people who know how to apply first aid can save lives. Breederveld is calling on other companies with staff in similar positions, such as bus drivers, refuse collectors, teachers and shopkeepers, to follow PostNL's example.

PostNL CEO Harry Koorstra: "We support this initiative of the Red Cross by issuing this special stamp. Together we will explore the possibilities the Red Cross has to offer for our employees."

In case of discrepancies between the Dutch and English versions of this press release, the Dutch version will prevail.
