PostNL's delivery location in Ede, Lunteren, Oosterbeek, Renkum and Wageningen to close

13 January 2012 at 13:00 CET- The Hague - On 16 January 2012, PostNL will be closing its delivery location in Ede, Lunteren, Oosterbeek, Renkum and Wageningen. This closure is part of the previously announced reorganisation at PostNL. The company will be closing all its delivery locations in phases between early 2012 and the autumn of 2013. PostNL has been forced to make drastic changes to its operations in response to changing customer needs and the sharp decrease in postal volumes.

The mail preparation activities that have, up to now, been carried out at the mentioned mail delivery locations will be transferred to a central mail preparation site in Utrecht. This central site will mainly make use of part-time sorting staff to prepare the mail for the delivery by mail deliverers.

Consumers will notice that they are receiving more mail on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday than on the other days. This move is in response to the fact that businesses prefer to have their mail delivered on these days. Domestic mail deposited in a public postbox or handed over at the post office will, as usual, be delivered the next day.

From work to work

Postal work will no longer be done the way it has been up to now by mailmen and women and Saturday delivery staff, and these positions will cease to exist. PostNL is making every effort to offer these employees a new job in the company or guide them to a new job outside the company. Since 2006, PostNL has operated an effective mobility (assisted reemployment) programme, which has guided over 6,000 employees from work to work. Employees can also make use of the Job Company, an initiative of Randstad / Tempo Team and PostNL aimed at offering redundant PostNL employees an income guarantee and the prospect of a permanent job elsewhere. The employee has the choice of which options to use. If the employment contract is terminated, the employee will receive severance pay based on the terms of the social plan agreed with the trade unions.

Mail deliverers

In the future, mail will only be delivered by part-time delivery staff. PostNL currently employs 17,000 mail deliverers across the Netherlands. These part-time employees pick up the mail they are to deliver, already fully sorted by street and house number, from a central location in the area and deliver this mail the same day.
