New Customer-Focused Operating Model to Continue to Deliver
Innovation

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/17/09 -- Nortel(1)
(TSX: NT)(OTCBB: NRTLQ) has appointed Francois Lancon president of
Enterprise Sales in EMEA and Asia. This appointment follows the
announcement made late in 2008 indicating Nortel would move to a new,
vertically-integrated business structure.

Francois Lancon previously held the role of president, Asia Pacific,
Nortel. In his new role, Lancon will combine leadership of the
Enterprise Business - including sales, marketing and operations -
across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Greater China.

"I see this role as a great opportunity, not only to build on past
achievements, but also to work with a fantastic team who are
dedicated to seeing Nortel succeed," said Lancon. "I'm eager to take
on the challenges we face and I'm confident that our customer
momentum across EMEA and Asia will grow in strength. In fact, we're
already starting to see evidence of this. In Asia, we are growing
ahead of the market and have secured several high profile wins -
especially in India. In EMEA, we have closed a number of deals in the
UAE and are expanding in Africa. We are totally committed to our
customers and partners, and one of my first actions has been to
establish a great leadership team to ensure we meet their high
expectations."

Prior to rejoining Nortel in January 2008, Lancon served as senior
vice president, Product Management and Marketing, for Convergys
Corporation, responsible for all of Convergys' software products.
Lancon was also president over Asia Pacific for Convergys
Corporation, where he was responsible for the growth and
profitability of Convergys' business in the Asia Pacific market.

Supporting Lancon in the EMEA region will be Martin Boeker, vice
president, Enterprise Sales, Southern Europe, and Mario DiMascio,
vice president, Enterprise Sales, Northern Europe.

Boeker joined Nortel in 2005 as vice president, Enterprise Sales
Central Region, covering Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary,
Czech Republic and Slovakia. Before he joined Nortel he worked in
executive positions at EMC, Fore Systems/Marconi, Enterasys and
Thrupoint a subsidiary of Cisco, KPMG and Morgan Stanley. Boeker has
a degree in Electro Engineering and telecommunication engineering.

DiMascio joined Nortel in 2005 from 3Com where he was director of
system sales in UK and Ireland. With more than 20 years of direct and
channel sales management experience, DiMascio has also served as
European sales director for Servecast, a media streaming company, and
general manager for NetQuotient, an eCommerce start up company in
Europe.
