Gotemba Mayor and Community Members Participate in Blessing

On May 14, a momentous opening ceremony was held in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, for NYK's "Yu no Mori" reforestation project, which aims to foster abundant water sources. NYK concluded a regional revitalization through forest development partnership agreement with Gotemba city in April 2022.

About 70 people attended the ceremony, including Masami Katsumata, mayor of Gotemba. NYK was proudly represented by Hitoshi Nagasawa, chairman and director, as well as Takaya Soga, president and representative director.

The ceremony included tours of the old private house and the administrative building, which will serve as a base for employees' volunteer activities, along with a commemorative tree-planting ceremony jointly with Gotemba City to celebrate the opening.

The Yu no Mori project was born out of the desire to give back to the ocean by cleaning up the mountains through reforestation, which will result in the preservation of the marine environment. Led by the ESG Management Group's Sustainability Initiatives Team, NYK Group employees are volunteering to help maintain the forests across Gotemba.

NYK will continue to promote the Yu no Mori project, and NYK Group employees will proactively work together with the local community to create a forest with a wide variety of vegetation.
